Bill's Poems
My Poetic Ramblings

My wife carried this photo around with her for over 50 years and counting. I guess it was to
remind her how I looked back in 1955 when I was going to tech school with the U.S.A.F.
If it is good enough for her, I will use it now although I have added a few
wrinkles and a few pounds along the way!Over the years, I have done a lot of things. I work with web pages, and a
couple hobbies of mine are genealogy and poetry. Maybe I take after my Mother
Rita on the last hobby. Here are some of the poems that I have written over the
last decades or so. I hope you enjoy them and let me know what you think!

I'VE GOT PEP IN MY STEP!
Throughout my 70 years of life,
I have had mottos come and some I've kept;
One of the most important ones I have found is:
I've got Pep in my Step!
I have always looked at the positive side of life.
the glass always is half full, not half empty, I accept.
I go through life with vim, vigor, and vitality,
I've got Pep in my Step!
While in my teens and twenties, I never gave it much thought.
My energy source was bountiful and I thought I was hep.
I could burn the candle at both ends and did it often,
I've got Pep in my Step!
In my thirties, I marched to the tune of the military;
our step was in cadence and full of pep.
Whether I was overseas or stateside, I always knew
I've got Pep in my Step!
In my forties and fifties, life just went on and on.
We raised our children, did our duty, and built a rep.
We took the good along with the bad and looked at the brighter side
I've got Pep in my Step!
Then came the sixties and seventies and life slowed down a lot.
we visited the doctors more and our medicine list we kept.
We took 2 mile walks every day and got our mental and physical exercise,
I've got Pep in my Step!
It has been a long and eventful life, that's for sure.
The good Lord has taken me through thick and thin which I accept.
When it is time, He will show me the path through "the white light"
And I will go swiftly, because I've got Pep in my Step!

ACHIN' BONES
It's tough to start getting old,
Throughout your life, things come and go,
But the one thing that comes and stays,
Are them achin' bones that hurt us for days.
Yes, achin' bones changes your life.
No sudden movements, no restful sleep,
Tubes of ointment are frequently used,
To gain that slight edge of relief.
Some folks have arthritis bones,
Some folks have rheumatism bones,
My Mother says she has "holey" bones,
But all it is is "old folks" achin' bones.
Achin' bones, oh, achin' bones,
These bones make you cry and sing!
The lord blessed me with many things,
But why them achin' bones.

GOD'S WAY
God needs your help
All across this great land;
Everywhere you turn there's evil;
Good will in not given or in demand.
We all need to get back to basics,
Live God's way, and practice the golden rule;
For every day there's a major crisis,
And they have taken prayer out of school.
To overcome our present problem,
Take a look at yourself first;
Then encourage your love ones to improve,
Their actions from their best to their worst.
I know it's not easy to change,
With troubles just about everywhere;
If you live your life God's way,
They know you really care.

ANGELS ARE WITH US
Angels, why they are everywhere
Looking out for you and me;
They stand as guardians
Ready for what there is to be.
Our Angels have been sent by God
To watch over us every single day;
I pray they do their job well
To keep us from harm's way.
Angels can be any one
That has gone on before;
They could be your Mother or Dad;
They could be your friend or more.
Yes, I believe in Angels!
I feel their presence in my heart;
They are with us constantly
Until this world we depart.

"HONEY DO" LIST
Men of this world, we need to unite!
Our wives have developed a "honey do" list;
They tell us, honey do that,
And honey, please do this!
Our women have it down to a science.
They tell us about a job at the busiest part of the day,
We can't ever put them off on the job,
We have to listen to what they have to say.
Once a task gets on their list,
They never ever let us forget it.
We are reminded by notes and other means,
If we try to postpone, they just have a fit!
From plumbing, carpentry, cleaning and more,
We must accomplish these feats without a fight,
From heavy lifting to moving furniture,
Then moving it back because it didn't look right!
This "honey do" list is cramping our style,
Golf tee times and sporting events are missed;
We are constantly looking over our shoulder
For what they are going to add to that list.
Men don't have a list for their wives;
They already do their own thing.
I wish they would realize just once,
That a 'honey do" list is not fit for the family King!

EARLY MORNING
It’s a foggy, damp early morning,
The grass is all covered with dew;
The road is all shiny and glistening,
An occasional dog bark across the way too.
The morning is just getting started;
There’s hardly anyone on the roadway;
It seems so quite and peaceful,
Only street lamps turn the night into day.
Most of the traffic lights are flashing,
No activity in the stores are found;
It’s strange to witness this stillness,
For very soon, it won’t be the same town.
I like the way it is right now;
No honking horns, no speeding cars in the way;
Just a complete quiet before the storm,
And another break of day.
